This pedagogical purpose dictates a great deal of compression, lest the student be lost in a labyrinth of dialectical and historical discussion, however important that may be in itself. But compression need not mean oversimplification. It does mean condensing, abridging, epitomizing. This has been done deliberately, in the interest of the student.
